It is reported that Stoke-on-Trent Council has successfully prosecuted a resident for putting her bin bags out on the wrong side of the street so that they would be collected sooner.
If you should live in Stoke-on-Trent,
And be of general good intent,
Be careful where you leave your bin,
Or you might just commit a sin.
For one good lady’s just been fined,
She thought the Council wouldn’t mind,
If she put bags across the street,
But it said she was just a cheat.
She knew which day the dustcart came,
For her and neighbours just the same,
But she thought that she would be smart,
And get one more go at the cart.
Across the road, I ought to say,
The dustcart came a different day,
So off she went without a care,
And put her bin bags over there.
Alas the Council found her out,
It said that she the laws did flout,
And at fly tipping she’d been caught,
So would soon find herself in court.
Once there the magistrate agreed,
She’d contravened the law indeed,
He didn’t have much more to say,
But there would be a fine to pay.
So let your watchword be ‘Take care’,
When leaving rubbish anywhere,
Be sure you know the date and time,
Or you might have to pay a fine.
